I believe there is life beyond Earth. I have learned as a human that we are extremely miniscule compared to the universe. To explain this I have learned that there are more stars than grains of sand on the Earth, one of the most abundant things on our planet. Imagine our galaxy, we have one planet that can sustain life out of eight total planets. There are an estimated seven quintillion grains of sand on Earth. If there are more stars than that and one-hundred billion galaxies the mathematical odds are heavily in favor of more life beyond Earth.
When I traveled to New York City, I found that one of the things that sparked my curiosity the most was visiting the Hayden Planetarium in The American Museum of Natural History. This is where I was entranced in the factual statistics presented and felt like I was moving through space. Me, having a preference for math thought about these very large numbers and also speculated, how could there not be life beyond Earth? My conclusion to the experience is that it was the first time I really understood how vast space is and how meager we are. I was also excited at the thought of deeper thinking to come. Once again this topic appeared in my life one night while watching the CBS show “60 Minutes”. Here I learned about the modern technologies humans have to explore beyond Earth. My interpretation of the story was that humans are working on lots of new technology to explore the solar system and that prodigious and breathtaking discoveries are inevitable and may be coming in the near future. As you may have guessed this extended my interest in this subject, and I was pondering how monumental it would be when everyone comes to the factual realization that there is life beyond Earth. Despite that I have no clue what size, shape, or form this evidence will be found in, but to me that is the intriguing part about it all. The last and probably the most important time this subject appeared in my life was when I watched the movie saga Star Wars. This event is what completely opened me up to the idea of there being life beyond Earth. Star Wars is considerably my favorite movie saga as it demonstrates multiple peoples and galaxies working in unison. Star Wars also gave me the great gift of wonder, when I watch it I wonder based on the statistics I have already acquired if we are a part of a similar universe to the one shown in Star Wars. I am so glad that to this day I still enjoy Star Wars a great deal and that it sparked my extreme interest in this topic. My final conclusion and insight about this topic is that it is very intriguing and astonishing. There are numerous possibilities for new learning and new ideas to come about. Although there are many positives to this topic, I know that because of our very low understanding of the topic we will have to acknowledge the possibility of considerable consequences as well. Despite the considerable consequences the curiosity and thrive to understand the unknown outweighs those major consequences. This I why I believe that there is life beyond Earth.
